Development of the Optimum Individual Tree DBH-Growth Prediction Equations by Forest Types Using Competition Index <Jour. Kor. For. Soc. 93(6):363-372. 2004>  Corresponding author yong@kookmin.ac.kr

The study was conducted to develop the optimum individual tree DBH growth prediction equations by forest types and tree species. For this, the distance-independent competition index model was employed to identify competition relationships between single trees in stands, and this competition index was used as an independent variable in the growth prediction equation.
  The values of coefficient of determination (R2) for prediction equations did not show any significant difference by forest types and by species. In terms of forest types, the coefficient of determination of model IV as 0.95 was the highest, while Pinus koraiensis forest and Pinus densiflora forest in Kangwon province and Pinus densiflora forest in the central Korea were the lowest as 0.88. Finally, three evaluation statistical figures such as Mean Deviation (MD), Standard Deviation of Differences (SDD) and Standard Error of Differences (SED) were tested. The model  IV was selected as the best model in Pinus densiflora forest in Kangwon Province, Pinus densiflora forest in the central Korea and Pinus koraiensis forest. The model Vl was selected as the best model for the Larix leptolepis forest and mixed forest.
