Position and Variation of Resin Canal Numbers of Cotyledon in Pinus koraiensis Sieb. et Zucc. at Different Growing Stages  <Jour. Kor. For. Soc. 15:43-48 1972> Kang-Young Lee and Kyong-Bin Yim

The variation in the number of resin canals in cotyledon at different growing stages was investigated and the results were summarized as follows:
1) Resin canals were not found one to two weeks after germination(i.e. in May), but observed to form four weeks later (i.e. in June). In September, it reached the maximum, 3.26 per needle and showed no change since then. 2) While resin canals were intermediate in regular mature needles, those in cotyledons were external and ranged from 1 to 5. 3) Correlation between growing stage and resin canal number was significant. And resin canal number also showed high correlation with needle thickness, cross-section area, and needle width. 4) Low correlation was observed between resin canal and cotyledon number.
