The Society for Korean White Pine (SKOWP) Regulations
Chapter 1: General Provisions
Article 1 (Name): This society shall be called 'The Society for Korean White Pine (SKOWP).'
Article 2 (Office): The office of The Society for Korean White Pine (SKOWP) (hereafter 'the Society') shall be located in College of Forest and Environmental Sciences, Kangwon National University.
Article 3 (Objectives): The Society aims to develop theory and technology for scientific and multi-purpose establishment, management, production and utilization of Korean white pines and Korean white pine forests, thereby contributing to the furtherance of income of owners of the forests and to the advancement of forest sciences.
Article 4 (Programs): The Society shall carry out the studies and programs related with those fields designated by International Union for Forestry Research Organizations (IUFRO) in order to accomplish the objectives as set forth in the preceding article, hold symposiums and lectures in this relation, and publish "Korean White Pine (Pinus koraiensis)," an English research journal, biennially.
Chapter 2: Membership
Article 5 (Category of, and Application for, Membership)
¨ç The membership of the Society falls into two categories, namely, the Regular Member who has agreed to the Society's objectives and applied for a membership, and the Honorary Member who is acknowledged for his or her outstanding contributions to the Society or distinguished for his or her erudite scholarship and experience, subject to recommendation by the Chairman and approval by the General Meeting.
¨è One who wishes to get enrolled as a regular member shall submit the prescribed application form, subject to approval by the General Meeting.
Article 6 (Membership Fee): A regular member shall pay membership fees as agreed upon by the General Meeting, which, along with other donations, once paid or made, shall not be refunded.
Article 7 (Membership Disqualification): Membership is nullified in the cases of each of the following:
1. In case a member has declared his or her withdrawal from the Society.
2. In case a member has died.
3. In case a member has been dismissed from membership.
4. In case a member has failed to pay membership fees for two years or over on end.
Article 8 (Dismissal from Membership): In case a member has defamed the Society's honor or
has acted against the objectives of the Society or violated membership duties, he or she could be disqualified, subject to a resolution by the General Meeting.
Chapter 3: Accounting
Article 9 (Operations Expenses): The operations expenses shall be met by means listed in the following:
1. membership fees
2. donations
3. other incomes
Article 10 (Outlays of Expenses): Expenses of the Society are met by operations expenses.
Article 11 (Fiscal Year): The Society's fiscal year shall start at the beginning of March and ends at the end of February the next year.
Chapter 4: Officers
Article 12 (Officers): The Society shall keep in office one chairman, one vice-chairman, one secretary and one auditor each.
Article 13 (Appointment of Officers): The chairman and auditor are elected out of the members at the General Meeting, and the vice-chairman and secretary by the chairman.
Article 14 (Responsibilities of Officers):
¨ç The chairman who has a comprehensive oversight of the Society represents the Society.
¨è The vice-chairman assists the chairman and acts on his or her behalf in his or her absence.
¨é The secretary carries out responsibilities related with the Society, as instructed the chairman.
¨ê The auditor audits the Society's accounting and reports the results of auditing at the General Meeting.
Article 15 (Tenure of Officers):
¨ç The tenure of officers (Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Secretary) is 3 years, and that of the auditor 2 years, while they are permitted to stay in the office for another tenure.
¨è The officer who has taken office to fill up a vacancy shall serve the remainder of the tenure of the predecessor.
Article 16 (In case of expiry of tenure, etc.): An officer who has resigned or whose tenure has expired shall remain in office until his or her successor has been selected.
Article 17 (Dismissal from office due to disqualification): In case an officer is disqualified, he or she is regarded as dismissed from office.
Article 18 (Dismissal of officer from office): In case an officer has defamed the Society's honor or acted against the objectives of the Society or violated membership duties, he or she could be dismissed from office, subject to a resolution at the General Meeting.
Chapter 5 Conferences
Article 19 (Kind of conferences):
¨ç Conferences fall into two kinds, namely, the General Meeting and provisional conferences.
¨è The General Meeting falls into two kinds, namely, regular and provisional Meetings.
¨é The regular General Meeting shall be held in February every year, and provisional general meetings or provisional meetings held when deemed necessary.
Article 20 (Call to meetings):
¨ç Meetings shall be convened and presided by the Chairman.
¨è The Chairman shall convene a meeting upon the request of 1/5 of the members or requested by the Auditor for a specific purpose deemed necessary by the Auditor.
¨é The General Meeting shall be convened by a written letter notifying the member of the purpose(s) of the meeting at one week's notice.
Article 21 (Meetings and Quorum for Resolutions): A meeting is effected, subject to the presence of half or more of the membership, and a resolution for an item on the agenda by the agreement of the members present. In case of a tie, the Chairman shall decide.
Article 22 (Topics Referable To a General Meeting): The following topics shall be referred to a General Meeting:
1. Approval of Program Planning
2. Budgeting of Incomes and Outgoings and Approval of Settlement of Accounts
3. Amendments of the Society's Regulations
4. Other topics suggested by the Chairman
Chapter 6: Amendment of the Society's Regulations and Dismissal of the Society
Article 23 (Amendment of the Society's Regulations and Dismissal of the Society): Amendment of the Society's regulations and dismissal of the Society shall be effected, subject to the approval of 2/3 or over of the membership at a General Meeting.
Chapter 7 Supplementary Provisions
Article 24 (Minor regulations for Implementation): Minor regulations required to implement the Society's Regulations shall be separately formulated, subject to a resolution at the General Meeting.
Article 25 (Other Matters): Matters unspecified in the foregoing is subject to generally acceptable practices.
Article 26: This Regulations shall come into force, effective February 24, 2005.
